This special place is surrounded with game rich havens that make for an unparallel safari experience. In other words do not hurry your safari, take it gradually or you will miss out on out.<br /><br />This is the kingdom of predators, while the huge herds of the Migration thunder across the plains in numerous numbers. The <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/serengeti-national-park/" target="_blank">Serengeti</a> has so much more to provide that the worlds last continuing to be great migration. However, this migration is so magnificent it is barely unexpected most visitors to the Serengeti try to time there schedule to accompany the migration.<br /><br />It is a good idea to try to get out and about when on Safari. Whilst it should be said that it is not constantly practical nor a good idea to leave your car on rare events it is motivated. Canoeing on <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/lake-manyara-national-park/" target="_blank">Lake Manyara</a> or strolling in the <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/tarangire-national-park/" target="_blank">Tarangire Wilderness Area</a> are terrific ways to stretch the legs and see, odor and feel the African bush far from the boundaries of the 4x4.<br /><br />This is the one time it is permitted to drive in the Serengeti in the pre-dawn. At times, ascend to 1000 meters or more to see the enormity and remarkable panorama of the Serengeti. From time to time the pilot should put more heat into the balloon with the powerful whisper burners.<br /><br />A significant consideration for the majority of people is the expense. The Serengeti is not always affordable-- with park fees alone doubling in 2014 to US $60 per individual daily. There are some lodges that cater for budget safaris and if you likewise travel in low season then lodge costs are lowered considerably.<br /><br />How long should a safari be? The Serengeti alone is so large months could be spent exploring. A general guideline would be to spend 5 days in the main and southern Serengeti or the main and northern Serengeti depending on the time of year is the minimum time to obtain any genuine feel or pleasure for the area.<br /><br />What time of year is finest? The dry season is July to December and is the optimal time for a photographic safari. The short rains are in November and the long rains from March to mid June. However, the weather does not constantly act naturally. Some years we have had more rain in January and February than the whole of the wet season. It might be better to state the rains are from November to June with a drier period from December to mid March. Remember that low season is both much cheaper and has fewer tourists.<br /><br />What season to reserve a safari depends on exactly what you want and to work carefully with your trip operator will assist you decide. I would aim to avoid late July to the end of September for the sole reason the parks and limited number of lodges are simply too hectic.<br /><br />If you are an experienced traveler, there is no reason why you must not arrive in Arusha and arrange your safari with a local operator. I have worked as a tour operator in Arusha in northern <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/" target="_blank">Tanzania</a> and designed itineraries for clients who have actually had up to three travel agents in a chain all adding commission onto the rate of the safari.<br /><br />A safari for one or two individuals is expensive. One method to decrease this expense is to sign up with a group. Joining a group will be cheaper; this being the only advantage if cost is an issue. To share a safari automobile with often requiring unfamiliar people may case problem once the safari begins.<br /><br />The more concerns you ask the more effective will be your safari. The quality of the answers you get to your concerns will likewise indicate how interested your operator in Tanzania is on the success of your safari verses just making an earnings.<br /><br />One last remark will be to unwind whilst on safari-- remove you view as it just will not be required. There is not the very same seriousness on an <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/" target="_blank">Africa safari</a>.<br />

The Northern Game Parks in Tanzania are famous for the wildlife migration which continues its yearly cycle through the <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/serengeti-national-park/" target="_blank">Serengeti</a> and the Maasai Mara in Kenya. Lake Manyara offers the uncommon opportunity to find tree climbing up lions and a range of experience activities from the cliff neglecting the lake.<br /><br />Tanzania is becoming significantly checked out and deservedly so, however there is a lot more to Tanzania than the Northern Circuit of parks. Most safaris want to include <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/holiday-types/the-great-migration" target="_blank">the Great Migration</a> as it is so magnificent and is the world's last making it through fantastic migration. There is an issue that the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Kilimanjaro have ended up being so popular that drastic steps are being taken to divert people somewhere else in Tanzania.<br /><br />Tanzania has so much more to offer than simply the Serenegei and Ngorongoro Crater. In the remote and almost unattainable Western Tanzania is the great Katavi National Park. This park is wonderful, remote and amazing.<br /><br />There is the <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/selous-game-reserve/" target="_blank">Selous Game reserve</a> in the South and this reserve is big and remote, although more easily accessible than Katavi. The game in this park is truly wild as they have not had opportunity to become habituated to human beings and vehicles. The lodges right here are couple of and excellent quality and they provide a game safari along the marvelous Rufiji River. From this park there is a short air travel to Mafia Island which provides a remote Island vacation with great diving and protected white beaches.<br /><br />For the energetic there is the <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/udzungwa-mountains/" target="_blank">Udzungwa Mountains National Park</a>, this is a park that boasts no roads and excellent tropical rain forest. This park was developed mostly for the protection of flora instead of animals.<br /><br />There are West and East Usambara Mountains where the world's preferred flower the African Violet was found. Saadani Bay is where the bush satisfies the sea, elephants and lions have actually been found on the beach, a truly special experience along the East African Coast.<br /><br />The list could go on. Tanzania offers a lot you could invest a life time exploring this corner of East Africa. This country is mosaic of mysteries and contradictions. To discover it, to consume in the rich culture and varied landscapes involves moving the nation, not racing from one area to the next. To do this will lead to safari tiredness. Chose sensibly and take your time to find, gradually slowly is the only method to appreciate and come to know, just a little, the magic that is Tanzania.<br />

It's a very intriguing journey to obtain to <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/accommodation/mnemba-island-lodge/" target="_blank">Mnemba Island Lodge</a>. It began with a bumpy and quite terrifying flight in a single engined aircraft from Dar es Salaam to Stonetown in <a href="http://www.zanzibar.co.uk/" target="_blank">Zanzibar</a>.<br /><br />This was followed by an amazingly rough trip, much of it on unmade up roadways and tracks, followed by a ferry journey, which African style implied wading off the beach to obtain on the boat, although in fairness my spouse was carried, as was the baggage!!.<br /><br />If you don't wish to arrive a physical and mental wreck maybe a 10 day <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/" target="_blank">safari in Tanzania</a> initially would be a good idea.<br /><br />Numerous of the guests at Mnemba were either honeymooners, or couples, however most were on R & R after a safari.<br /><br />Whatever - the large high-end, love, and general spoiling at Mnemba Island Lodge, albeit in an understated method makes the trip so well worthwhile.<br /><br />As you may or may not be aware, Mnemba Island Lodge is an intimate personal island off the north east idea of Zanzibar, surrounded by its own coral reef within an aquatic preservation location, so if you scuba dive, then Mnemba Atoll is rated one of the best reefs in East Africa.<br /><br />If like my spouse and I, you just snorkel, then there is magnificent snorkelling, almost off the beach.<br /><br />The Mnemba Island Lodge provides privacy, and exclusivity, and although the reef is a popular site for worked with dhows from all over the north east of Zanzibar, it is rather fun to view them indulging the open sea, having taken a trip possibly for over an hour to get there, understanding it is all on your doorstep!!<br /><br />Now there is something you need to be clear about, Mnemba does not have a number of things-- specifically cooling, windows, no selection of menu at mealtimes, no television or radios, and the water you wash in, is a bit salted.<br /><br />Having stated that your lodging appears to be in thatched huts, when in fact it is in 10 well remote split level beach bandas, built on platforms raised off the sand, which have been smartly positioned making sure they are entirely personal.<br /><br />The bandas are all made from natural local products, and from the outdoors appearance quite standard, and it is not until you go into that you understand how great they are. The bathroom is roomy with shower, his 'n' her washbasins, and different w.c<br /><br />. However you will sleep in the greatest beds you can possibly imagine, covered in rippling muslin internet, cooled to excellence by a constant sea breeze coming off of the Indian Ocean.<br /><br />As the banda, you also get your own little pagoda with sun beds on the beach itself (with blinds that can be decreased must you desire protection from the sun) and the most fantastic double bed-sized swing with mattress on the beach.<br /><br />We loved the food which is prepared virtually solely from regional ingredients but in the modern restaurant design.<br /><br />By the way, there is no space service as you know it, because there are no telephones, nevertheless that is arranged by talking to your very own personal butler!!<br /><br />I must likewise add there are literally no menus, however the food is scrumptious, and if you desire something, then all you have to do is ask.!!<br /><br />Mnemba is the perfect location to leave all the fears of the 21st century behind, along with your shoes.<br /><br />There are few choices delegated make, apart from what you want to consume now, what you wish to consume later, and where you want your butler to set it up, and after that exactly what you want to do tomorrow.<br /><br />It's costly, it's simple it's unsophisticated, and it's worth it.</div>

Numerous young couples have a tropical honeymoon getaway, and some take an African Safari Honeymoon to <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/" target="_blank">Tanzania</a> or Kenya, and then urgently seek a tranquil quiet escape for the last few days, and this is where an Indian Ocean Island in the <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/mafia-island/" target="_blank">Mafia Archipelago</a> off Tanzania called Chole is available in.<br /><br />There are few better places to lastly end up in than Chole Mijini Lodge which is the epitome of a charming honeymoon getaway. This is never ever more real if you are really aware of the damage that brand-new vacation developments can do to the regional environment or population, due to the fact that Chole Mijini Lodge has developed with the very best concepts of echo tourism and benefiting local neighborhoods.<br /><br />Chole Mijini Lodge is on a tiny fertile island called Chole, some twenty minutes cruise from Mafia. It has been established as a partnership with the owners Jean and Anne de Villiers and the people of Chole Village. $10 per night per guest goes to resource neighborhood advancement projects, and this is working exceptionally well.<br /><br />This has up until now led to the Community having, and more significantly being able to manage to run a primary school, a kindergarten, an adult knowing centre with computers and English classes, and a clinic and a market.<br /><br />Chole Mijini Lodge is really near the town, and is unfenced, being positioned in the middle of the ruins of an old town that was heavily associated with the slave trade 2 centuries earlier.<br /><br />There are six tree houses high up on stilts, and a big suite on the ground. The tree homes are rather fantastically designed and incredibly uncommon, with the whole effect being one of a tropical garden amidst the ruins, and it is spectacularly efficient.<br /><br />The tree houses all have a view over the mangroves to the sea, and consist of a restroom at ground level with a long drop composting loo, which although it sounds very basic, does work very well. If Chole is to be part of your honeymoon, and you don't such as the noise of this, then book the ground level suite which boasts the only flush toilet on the island!<br /><br />There are hot showers for all the lodgings, and there is a dhow where you can spend a night far from the lodge.<br /><br />Mijini Lodge has a really comfy primary lounge with great deals of huge colorful cushions to lie about on, with loads of books and video games.<br /><br />This really is an escape and a charming getaway location.<br /><br />It is likewise fair to mention that Mijini Lodge has no electrical energy supply, and it is full board, with dining at a large household design table, and just water is included in the complete board rate, although alcohols can be purchased. You will find the the food simple imaginative and exceptional, with different meals to lure even the most seasoned palate!<br /><br />The service is exceptional throughout the lodge, constantly there, and extremely discreet. If you are fretted about security, there are guards around all the time especially at night so so feel safe at all times.<br /><br />In regards to exactly what you do at Mijini Lodge, there are cruising trips, forest walks, and basic expedition of the historical ruins, and general history of the area, snorkeling, and diving. There is everything from shallow shallows to deep dives, and a completely set up PADI.<br /><br />Tanzania, and the Mafia Archipelago makes everyone consider white sand beaches, and they are quickly available by dhow, if not fairly on the doorstep. A few of the beaches you will be required so remote, entirely untouched and lovely.<br /><br />Exactly what you absolutely need to do is to take the distinct chance to see how the regional village lives, and to experience it. Majini provides you a special chance to do this, and provides you an insight into everyday African life.<br /><br />Without wanting to be unfavorable, the most significant downside to Chole Mijini Lodge is the heat typically a benefit during the day, but in the evening when the breeze drops, the lack of a fan, and the ever present malaria mosquitoes implies that the bed enclosed by nets ends up being an oven. Now this is also the case at lots of safari camps in Africa, however is something to be aware of right here.<br /><br />Notwithstanding Chole Mijini Lodge is an entirely unique spot to end an <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/holiday-types/honeymoons" target="_blank">African safari honeymoon</a>, but not for people who require all the luxuries of the 21st century. If it is for you, then the experience you will have will make this a romantic honeymoon getaway you will never ever forget.<br /><br />It isn't truly a base for a complete Tanzania getaway, however a great location for two or three days, hidden so to speak, among the islands in the Mafia Archipelago.</div>

Paul Goldstein, co-owner of Kenya-based Kicheche Camps, says: "If the tourists don't go on safari, there are no eyes on the ground and the locals don't get paid. The poachers move in.".<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />Goldstein was shocked last December to see a dead elephant, tusks removed by poachers, in the Maasai Mara park: this would have been unthinkable a year earlier.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Read the Foreign Office advice on travel to Kenya and you 'd be forgiven
for avoiding the place altogether. According to Kenyan government
statistics, British visitor numbers have fallen by more than a third
since 2012 (from 185,976 to 117,201 in 2014).<br /><br />Proving a link between the drop in visitors and a rise in poaching is difficult, but the fact that tourists, by their presence, help protect wildlife is something Zimbabwe learned the hard way when the country descended into economic chaos between 2003-2008 and visitors stopped arriving. Mark Butcher of Imvelo Safaris, who runs camps there says he saw the heavy price paid by the wildlife: "When people are hungry, they don't worry about conservation.<br /><br />When <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/" target="_blank">Tanzania</a> closed its border with Kenya between 1977 and 1983, visitors to the Serengeti dropped from 70,000 a year to around 10,000. The loss in revenue caused a 60 % decline in anti-poaching patrols and a rapid rise in poaching. Rhino disappeared, elephant numbers dropped and meat poaching skyrocketed. Similar things are now happening in northern <a href="http://www.puremozambique.com/" target="_blank">Mozambique</a>, where a government-backed survey has estimated that half of the country's elephants (almost 10,000) have been illegally killed in the past five years.<br /><br />Like many in the safari business, Butcher thinks Kenya's conservancy movement is its brightest hope. This has seen large areas of Kenya protected by small landowners pledging land to communal conservation zones. Franchised safari camps pay landowners according to the number of tourists they take. "Communities set aside land for wildlife because it's financially in their interests," says Butcher. "But in the absence of tourists, poachers give the incentives.".<br /><br />A report in March by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) highlighted the scarcity of data on the economic value of wildlife tourism in Africa, but surveyed data from 48 government bodies and 145 tour operators from 31 African countries and concluded that poaching "threatened the tourism sector's long-term sustainability". However, only 50 % of the operators were directly funding anti-poaching initiatives or engaging in conservation projects.<br /><br />Encouraging them, and getting tourist numbers back up is vital. Jonathan Scott, who presents the BBC's Big Cat Diary and has lived in Kenya for 40 years, says: "If the world is serious about helping to prevent poaching, we need those tourist dollars.".<br />

Designated as a World Heritage Site, the crater has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. An estimated 25,000 large mammals in a relatively small area make it a 'must' destination when on safari on the Northern Tanzanian Safari Circuit. Ngorongoro is home to one of the few remaining populations of black rhino in Tanzania.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/serengeti-national-park/" target="_blank">Serengeti National Park</a> has so much to offer for it is vast and every season is special in this amazing National Park. For most safari itineraries the main focus of any trip to the Serengeti is the migration, depending on the long rains from February to May, where up to two million herbivores take advantage of the short grass of the southern Serengeti to calve and feed, before moving north westerly to eventually arrive at the dramatic crossing of the Grumeti river, home to some of Africa's biggest crocodiles.<br /><br />The Zanzibar archipelago consists of fifty or so islands the main island is called Unquia but usually referred to as Zanzibar Island. Stone Town is the capital of Zanzibar being the port and entrance to these spiced islands.<br /><br />
<a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/tarangire-national-park/" target="_blank">Tarangire National Park</a> is probably Tanzania's most underrated park. This park is used as a stop over point on the way to or from the Serengeti. It is a special area, a bird watchers paradise and in the dry season many animals are attracted to the area as it has a year round water supply along the River Tarangire. There are some wonderful camps here such as Swala Camp and then the magnificent Oliver's Camp in the wilderness area of the Park. The park is most legendary for the large concentration of elephants and the huge baobab Trees that dominate the park.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/lake-manyara-national-park/" target="_blank">Lake Manyara National Park</a> is a small but scenic safari park. It is most unusual for lions to climb trees, this park is famed for its tree climbing lions.<br /><br />Mt. Kilimanjaro, sitting on the Tanzania- Kenyan border, is remote, alluring and simply put, awe inspiring. Located in Northern Tanzania, Kilimanjaro dominates the landscape.<br /><br />It is not as popular as the national Parks in the North of Tanzania, in recent years visitors have begun to realize this park has much to offer the tourist looking for the remote wilderness experience. The northern section of the park has a handful of luxury camps. This park truly offers the Out of Africa experience.<br /><br />Ruaha is probably the most arid of Tanzania's parks. It is on the Southern Circuit and is sometimes know as Giraffe Park as it has in excess of 8,000 Maasai giraffe. From December to January the park enjoys a large number of the rare Eleanor's falcons.<br /><br />
<a href="http://www.puretanzania.com/mafia-island/" target="_blank">Mafia Island</a> is set off the coast of central Tanzania, twenty kilometers from the Rufiji River Delta, making this remote island an ideal place for relaxing after a safari in the Selous. A small island, fifty kilometers long and fifteen kilometers wide and completely surrounded by a barrier reef, entry by light aircraft is required. The reef is teaming with marine life. There are over 460 species of tropical fish in these reefs as well as five species of turtles. The diver, either beginner or more experienced, has a profusion of underwater habitats to explore.<br /><br />
Arusha National Park is a lovely park is set between the peaks of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. It is a tiny park - only 53 square miles. The Park is an area of outstanding beauty and can be visited easily for a few hours from the nearby town of Arusha. The highlands are forested, with the peak of Mount Meru rising above the forests to dominate the park. The forests are populated by a thriving and varied bird life and climbing in the ancient cedar trees is the dramatically marked black and white colubus monkey, barking its haunting call through the quiet forest.<br />

Zanzibar is set to attract more tourists following increased
advertisement of the islands globally, President Ali Mohamed Shein said
while in Germany.<br />
<br />
Dr Shein added that the government has been working hard to promote
<a href="http://www.zanzibar.co.uk/" target="_blank">Zanzibar</a> as the best tourist destination in East Africa and the results
are bearing fruit.<br />
<br />
“As we advertise the tourism attraction sites in Zanzibar, we have
been also overcoming different challenges,” Dr Shein said in an
interview with members of the press in Wurzburg- Germany where he has
been since last Tuesday for an official visit.<br />
<br />
The president underscored the importance of tourism <gs class="GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark" ginger_software_uiphraseguid="89a7602e-48cb-4f10-8bb8-2072ccda9034" id="97a3bc01-68c5-4078-8bf5-2fdd969daf7a">to</gs> Zanzibar
socially and economically, and that the Islands still have unique
attraction <gs class="GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark" ginger_software_uiphraseguid="89a7602e-48cb-4f10-8bb8-2072ccda9034" id="85f666df-85ad-4eb0-8e1f-9b327eb33b65">places including</gs> its history admired by many people who visit
East Africa.<br />
<br />
He said that in addition to the contribution of tourism to Zanzibar
economy, it has also enhanced good relations with foreign nations
through cultural exchange like in this years’ International African
Music festival in Wurzburg, where artists from different countries had
an opportunity to meet.<br />
<br />
<br />
“Hospitality, our traditions, behaviour, local music and local food
are some of the things which unite people of Zanzibar and attract
tourists,’ said Dr Shein. According to a press release from the
President’s press team, Dr Shein said his government was determined to
make sure that Zanzibar is widely advertised including through festivals
held in different countries around the world. During the interview with
Germany journalists, Dr Shein said <gs class="GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark" ginger_software_uiphraseguid="08471065-d67c-4132-87f1-367350df60e5" id="e81ec1a2-9e4e-48ec-b555-7ae1e72a3059">Zanzibar government</gs> was improving
infrastructure and promoting peace/stability as prerequisite to
development. Dr Shein together with his delegation also visited the
Department of Tropical Diseases at Wurzburg Mission College of Health
Sciences, where the Chairperson of the Board Prof August Stich said his
institute has been collaborating with various higher institutions across
the world including Bugando in Mwanza, and KCMC in Moshi. “During the
Ebola outbreak in West Africa, my institutions trained 200 health
workers who were working in affected countries,” Prof Stich said before
bidding farewell to Dr Shein and his delegation who left Wurzburg for
Berlin where he is scheduled to meet Germany leaders and members of the
business community.<br />

Travellers heading to Zambia from South Africa will no longer be
required to get a yellow fever vaccination, the Department of Health has
announced.<br />

<a href="http://www.tourismupdate.co.za/Home/Detail?articleId=29666">Tourism Update</a> reports that the decision was made at the World Health Assembly in Geneva on Friday and lifted with immediate effect.<br />

According to the <a href="http://www.lusakatimes.com/">Lusaka Times</a>, the decision comes after the World Health Organisation confirmed that Zambia had low yellow fever exposure status.<br />

Zanzibar — LIKE in many countries across the world, agriculture has
been backbone of Zanzibar's economy for many years. Although it is small
scale farming, agriculture has been basic occupation for majority
people with over 70 per cent of population relying on agriculture and
fishing for its livelihood.<br />
<br />
The main farm production has been cloves, spices and fruits. Farmers
take care of entire process of agriculture like sowing seeds, weeding,
harvesting crops, and watering, while government helps to provide inputs
including required knowledge, tilling of the land by tractors,
provision of seedlings, fertilisers, and better prices after harvest.<br />
<br />
Under the motto 'Mapinduzi ya Kilimo (revolution in farming)'
introduced after the formation of Dr Ali Mohamed Shein's Government of
National Unity (GNU) it has been taking several steps to improve
agriculture, including providing education to farmers on how to increase
productivity.<br />
However, despite government promoting farming, some people
particularly the youths are not giving agriculture due treatment. People
fail to understand the importance of this sector because of slow
economic achievement.<br />
<br />
Very few youths select this field as career or occupation. But
Tourism is another main industry in <a href="http://www.zanzibar.co.uk/">Zanzibar</a>. Having realised the
importance of tourism to the economy, the Islands' Government has been
working hard to further promote tourism to attract tourists from around
the world.<br />
The government has designated tourism as a priority sector of the
economy; contributing twenty seven per cent to the Gross Domestic
Product and providing directly 20,000-40,000 jobs.<br />
<br />
It is estimated that indirect employment is between 60,000 and
100,000 people in the industry, they include food suppliers (and fish
mongers), traders selling tourists items, and taxi drivers.<br />
Since tourism accounts for 80 per cent of the foreign currency, many
leaders and members of the business community describe the sector as the
backbone of the future economic growth and development of the islands.<br />
<br />
The Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors (ZATI) recently had a
colourful annual dinner held at the Zanzibar Beach Resort, where the
ZATI chairperson said; "Tourism is now the leading industry. It is the
backbone of the economy.<br />
<br />
So, it really is a time for tourism for all... " ZATI chairperson Mr
Abdulsamad Ahmed Said informed the gathering that tourism requires
knowledge and awareness -- that would in turn bring positive change.<br />
<br />
He said: "I believe that Zanzibar can strive to be the destination
that we want it to be." The event was officiated by German Ambassador,
H.E. Egon Kochanke as guest of honour.<br />
He said <a href="http://www.purezanzibar.com/">Zanzibar</a> has a bright future should the tourism industry be
well managed with workable planning. Minister for Information, Tourism,
Culture, and Sports Mr Said Ali Mbarouk, Urban West Regional
Commissioner Mr Abdalla Mwinyi Khamis, Commissioner of Police- Zanzibar
Mr Hamdani Omar, ZATI Executive Board, and ZATI members were also at the
function.<br />
ZATI director & advocacy officer, Ms Pamela Matthews, and
administration assistant Ms Farida Nassor were also at the function
where Mr Said mentioned several key areas aimed at improving tourism in
the country.<br />
<br />
The areas include: dealing with issues surrounding liquor licences,
the Policing, safety & security placed high on our agenda by working
closely with consultants, Ministers, Police in order to work towards
improvements of security in the islands.<br />
<br />
"Following up on concerns over security at the airport; Taxation and
in particular the ongoing issue of the VAT Amendment; Waste management
issues and monopolies and issues with regional administration; and the
Zanzibar Commission of Tourism (ZCT) Regulations review," the ZATI
chairperson said.<br />
<br />
He also mentioned other subjects being dealt with by his office to
build tourism as Lobbying Government at Parliamentary sessions for
changes; working closely with the Ministry of Health on Ebola &
sharing of information; and Conservation, by taking part in the South
West Indian Ocean Fisheries Project designed to improve the management
of fisheries and promote sustainable practices.<br />
Mr Abdulsamad Ahmed Said, emphasized on having a good investment
environment, and that success of his private sector organisation (ZATI)
is very much dependent on the relationships with the Public Sector, to
support the growing industry to thrive and achieve its potential for the
people and the economy of Zanzibar.<br />
<br />
He said, "So let's work together to face and resolve the challenges
that we are all facing. We are stronger together. More effective
together, we must encourage more and more public private partnerships as
this is what will enable us to make the changes that we all wish for."<br />
According to the Zanzibar minister responsible for tourism
development, Mr Mbarouk, Zanzibar needs to improve its attraction sights
like culture, beaches, diving, forests, security, and the historical
sights. He said that visitor arrivals have been increasing to
Destination Zanzibar, with annual average visits of 150,000 in the past
recent years.<br />
<br />
The minister said that the increase represents visitors from across
Europe and US. The minister emphasized on workable advertisements,
organized tours, peace and having no worry of insecurity, and involving
everybody in the campaign to promote tourism.<br />

The government is finalizing the evaluation of two bidders selected to
invest on the Indian Ocean islands close to Dar es Salaam city. The
selected companies are Landmark Hotels and Prime Time Promotions.<br />
<br />
The move by the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserves (DMR) to lease the
islands is to boost tourism. The islands have for many years remained
deserted.<br />
<br />
DMR manages a group of marine wildlife reserves in Tanzania, situated
off the coast of Tanzania. The reserve system consists of nine
uninhabited islands of Bongoyo, Mbudya, Pangavini and Fungu Yasini.<br />
<br />
Others are Makatumbe, Sinda and Kendwa Island. But to start with investors would take over Mbudya, Bongoyo and Sinda islands.<br />
<br />
DMR provides protection for several important tropical ecosystems; coral reefs, mangroves and sea-grass beds.<br />
<br />
According to DMR's Head of Tourism Services Dept, Idelfonce Masekesa an
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been conducted and upon
completion it would be sent to the National Environmental Management
Council (NEMC).<br />
<br />
Apart from those islands, DMR has also identified six areas for
investments along Mtwara region coastline, Southern Tanzania. Meanwhile
the government is revising the law to include fresh water islands.<br />
<br />
"We are in a process to review the Act that established DMR, instead of
relying on Indian Ocean islands, we are now planning to include fresh
water islands on Lake Victoria, Tanganyika and Nyasa," he said.<br />
<br />
Islands in both the Indian Ocean and the lakes have been idle in tourism for many years.<br />
Previous government decisions may also been contributed to the delay in
investments, because in early 1960s the Kawawa Commission recommended
among other things to restrict investors from islands for security
concerns.<br />
<br />
Mbudya Island is an uninhabited island in <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/destinations/africa/tanzania">Tanzania</a>, north of the country's capital city, Dar es Salaam.<br />
The island lies close to the beach resort and fishing community of
Kunduchi and is reachable by means of a 20-minute motorboat ride
crossing from the mainland.<br />
<br />
It is therefore a popular daytrip for both tourists and Tanzanian
residents alike, serving as a location for a variety of leisure
activities, including snorkelling, sunbathing and hiking.<br />
<br />
Bongoyo Island is an uninhabited island in Tanzania, situated 2.5km north of Dar es Salaam.<br />
<br />
It is the most frequently visited island of the Dar es Salaam Marine
Reserve (DMR) and a popular daytrip for both tourists and Tanzanian
residents alike for snorkelling and sunbathing.<br />

The three-day camp took place from 24th – 26th
June 2014 and focussed on adult health, maternal child health
(including cervical cancer screening and family planning), nutrition and
dentistry. The main aim of the camp was to concentrate on these four
areas of health, while also building the capacity of the staff
clinicians and Community Health Workers.<br />
<br />
Working with our partners Safarilink Aviation and The Kicheche
Community Trust, a team of six were flown to the Mara North Conservancy
for the medical camp and stayed at the nearby Elephant Pepper Camp. Dr
Anne Kihara, Dr Rose Kosgei, Dr Irene Marete, Dr Sarah Awino and three
dentistry experts kindly volunteered their time to work alongside health
centre staff to treat an impressive 544 patients!<br />
<br />
The majority of patients required paediatric attention, while others
were treated for obs and gynae related matters, general ailments and
dentistry. Fantastic progress was made with general outreach although,
to build a way forward with the community, the Trust has highlighted
that more training on early diagnosis, prevention of infection, dietary
issues that place severe pressure on dental care and male attitudes to
family planning needs to be the focus of future work with the Aitong
Health Centre. It was also agreed that collaborating with other
partners and clinics in the area, alongside the Ministry of Health would
also bring great benefit.<br />
<br />
The Cheli & Peacock Community Trust, its partners and volunteers
are already planning the next medical camp in November/December this
year, which will look to build the capacity of Aitong clinic staff
through training on key health-related issues (such as Emergency
Obstetric and Neonatal Care) and also branch into other clinics nearby.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
The trampling of a Namibian trophy hunter by an
elephant has raised the debate around hunting permits issued for the
country’s gravely endangered desert elephants.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As reported in the Namibian newspaper <em>New Era</em>,
a Namibian professional hunter sustained multiple injuries when a young
elephant bull attacked him in the Uukwaluudhi Conservancy. He is now
recovering in hospital.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The victim was
assisting a German hunter who owns a hunting safari company. He was
given a permit by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) and the
professional hunter was helping him to identify the best elephant
suitable for hunting.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The bull was
subsequently shot by environmental officials and the meat distributed to
the local community. It was the second elephant to be killed in the
region in recent weeks.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Conservationists have
been outraged over the government’s issuing of permits to hunt
desert-adapted elephants found in Namibia’s north western reaches. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Namibian
environmentalist Garth Owen-Smith, who won a prize in the 1990s for his
conservation work against illegal hunting, recently highlighted the
dwindling numbers of these unique creatures.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“This
population of between 120 and 150 elephants that live most of their
lives in the northern Namib are of enormous value to the country and the
world,” he said.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
According to sources on the
ground, of this number only 18 are mature bulls – a fact which has
enormous implications for the breeding potential and ultimately survival
of the group.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The two trophy kills follow a
press release by the MET, in which it stated that only two ‘own-use’
hunting permits had been issued to conservancies in Namibia’s north
western region. However, this is allegedly in addition to seven trophy
hunting permits that have also been issued.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The
two bulls killed were both of breeding age. Following the death of the
first, a member of the Namibian Professional Hunter’s Association
commented to the Conservation Action Trust: “While I am completely in
favour of sustainable hunting, I don’t feel entirely comfortable with
the idea of shooting elephants in the Kunene region – particularly if
they are of breeding age, as this bull was.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Suzi
Van de Reep, co-owner of the Kunene region’s Huab Lodge said: “I am
horrified by what is happening. At the start of the century, we had 13
bulls who used to visit regularly – we could virtually set our clocks by
their arrival to dig waterholes in the dry riverbed. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Then,
within a space of three years, we lost every single one of them to the
gun – simply and solely because of hunting permits issued by the MET. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“And the tragedy is it’s not stopping. The government has to realise that these elephants are not replaceable.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
And you can spread the word - the MET needs as much heat on them as possible...</div>

A significant yet seldom highlighted World Bank statistic is that half
of African countries (27 in total) are now classified as middle-income
countries. Private equity has enabled businesses in Africa to grow by
servicing rapidly gentrifying populations and is providing returns for
investors that outstrip public markets. Among the most promising sectors
is financial services, which has long been popular with the region’s
private equity houses, particularly as technological innovations, such
as mobile payments, have made financial services products more
accessible for the remotest of communities and as banking reforms in
many markets have led to consolidation. Other sectors that are
attractive for private equity investments include consumer industries,
infrastructure, telecoms, agriculture and forestry, and industrial
goods.<br />
<br />
<strong>Africa set to gain US$3bn infrastructure fund. </strong>Africa’s
largest development lender, the African Development Bank, plans to
launch a US$3bn infrastructure fund this month, aiming to raise money
from regional and non-African pension funds, insurance groups, sovereign
wealth funds and institutional investors. The fund, to be known as
Africa50, will help the continent in delivering vital infrastructure
through a new global partnership platform, according to the proposal by
the African Development Bank. Africa needs about US$95bn a year to close
an infrastructure gap in electricity, roads, railway and port. Current
investment is running at about US$45bn. The AfDB, which will invest
US$500m, aims to approve the fund this month during its annual meeting
in Rwanda.<br />
<br />
<strong>Ethiopia receives first sovereign Standard & Poor’s rating</strong>.
Ethiopia has received its first sovereign credit rating from the top
global agencies. Moody's assigned a B1 issuer ratings to the Government
of Ethiopia. Ethiopia is one of the world’s fastest growing economies,
averaging growth of more than 10 per cent per year over the last decade
and attracting the likes of clothing giant H&M and private equity
groups.<br />
<br />
<strong>Rebasing the Nigerian Economy.</strong> Nigeria, Africa’s top
oil producer and the most populous country in sub-Saharan Africa, with
an estimated 170 million people, has overtaken South Africa as the
largest economy after a rebasing calculation almost doubled its gross
domestic product to more than US$500bn. Nigeria’s market has been
growing as an investment destination owing to the size of its consumer
and growing capital markets. GDP growth averaged at 6% over the last 10
years despite global economic and local market challenges. Most
governments overhaul GDP calculations every few years to reflect changes
in output, but Nigeria had not done so since 1990, thus sectors such as
Telecom Media and Technology (TMT) i.e. e-commerce and mobile phones,
strong financial services, growing labour market and its prolific
creative sectors such as “Nollywood” films now worth 1.4 % of GDP had to
be factored in to give an up to date picture. This is in addition to
the revenue generated from the petroleum industry which accounts for 95 %
of Nigeria’s export earnings and 85% of total government revenue.<br />
<br />
<strong>Private equity fund - a first for Tanzania</strong>. Locals
have been urged to invest more in Tanzania as the country launches the
Mkoba Private Equity Fund – the first ever private equity fund in the
country. The Sh480 billion (US$300 million) fund aims to provide growth
capital to portfolio companies not on the radar of most funds. The fund
will focus on Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mozambique, DRC, South Africa,
Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia and Sierra Leone, targeting equity investments
ranging from US$1.0 to US$15 million.<br />
<br />
<strong>Biggest oil discovery yet in Kwanza basin off Angola</strong>.
Cobalt International Energy has discovered significant quantities of oil
offshore Angola, calling the find the biggest so far in the promising
pre-salt layer in the Kwanza Basin. Oil drillers hope discoveries under a
deep submerged salt crust off Angola known as pre-salt may match the
prolific finds beneath similar deposits off Brazil on the other side of
the Atlantic in recent years. Analysts say Angola, Africa's No. 2 oil
producer, could double its oil reserves, which are currently estimated
at just under 13 billion barrels, if pre-salt drilling proves
successful. Cobalt estimates the well may hold between 400 million and
700 million barrels of oil.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>Kenya and Nigeria sign trade agreement</strong>. Kenya and
Nigeria have signed three agreements and four memoranda of understanding
aimed at promoting trade between the two countries. The agreements were
on trade and agricultural cooperation which lay the foundation for
business people from Kenya and Nigeria to interact and promote business
and make provisions for the two countries to work together in boosting
their agriculture respectively. MoUs signed were on cooperation in
police service, five year multiple visa for prominent businesspersons,
cooperation in control of the possession and trafficking in narcotics
drugs and psychotropic substances, and one MoU between Nigerian
Association of Chamber of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture and
the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry which was signed at a
business forum attended by Kenyan and Nigerian business people.<br />

<br />
<br />
<strong>DAR
ES SALAAM, Tanzania - The Zanzibar government has received a $8.5
million Japanese grant for the development of the Malindi fish landing
and marketing facilities in Zanzibar.</strong><br />
<br />
In a press
statement to East African Business Week it is stated that the money will
be used for the construction of the landing quays. This will enable
safe accommodation of about 400 fishing boats on the island.<br />
<br />
The
funds will also help in the construction of a fish market and the
provision of equipment that would allow smooth operations for around
6,000 users besides helping in fishing management programs.<br />
<br />
The
grant agreement according to the statement was signed by the chief
representative of JICA, Tanzania Office Yasunori Onishi and Khamis Omar,
the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance in the Revolutionary
government of Zanzibar.<br />
<br />
According to Onishi, the implementation
of these components will to the greater extent help in implementation of
the said projects which will later lead to the stable supply of better
quality fish to the people of Zanzibar.<br />
<br />
According to <a href="http://www.zanzibar.co.uk/" target="_blank">Zanzibar</a>
government officials the funds will help in ensuring that the illegal
fishing practices is halted which will later translate into a more
modern fishing methods in order to protect environment and ensure a
rapid income in the fishing industry.<br />
<br />
An official in Zanzibar
government said the construction of a $2.5million complex owned by the
Zanzibar Fishing Authority last year was also one the indicators that
the fishing industry in the isle is improving.<br />
<br />
He said Zanzibar was willing to do its level best to ensure that fishing sector generates the more income for its people.<br />
<br />
Currently
Zanzibar major export earnings are from cloves which dropped last year
to $2.1 million exports during the year ending September 2013, being a
60.2% drop from $4.3 million exported during the preceding year
according to according to the Bank of Tanzania’s (BoT) Monthly Economic
Review for October 2013.<br />
<br />
With the decline in clove exports last
year, Zanzibar’s export of goods and services dropped to $176.4 million
during the year ending September 2013 from $196.6 million recorded in
the same period a year before.<br />
<br />
Despite the support being rendered
to the fishing industry, most Zanzibar’s are also farmers, farming
mainly Cassava, Sweat potatoes Rice, Cloves at relatively small scale
with only one Research Institute at Kizimbani Research Center.<br />

With support from the Netherlands government, Tanzania will carry out
an expansion project for the Kilimanjaro International Airport in the
northern tourist circuit. The Netherlands government had signed an
agreement this week to provide 15 million euro to support Tanzania in
carrying out rehabilitation and expansion of Kilimanjaro International
Airport. Upon completion, Kilimanjaro Airport will attract more
international flights, hence boosting the growing tourist flow in
northern Tanzania as well as cargo flower handling.<br />
<br />
Several international airlines are now landing in northern Tanzania
through Kilimanjaro Airport. These include Qatar Airways, KLM Royal
Dutch Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, and
Condor German Airlines, a charter tourist carrier from Germany.<br />
<br />
The expansion project of the airport will start this year and be
completed in 2020. The rehabilitation project will cover the aprons,
taxiways, and terminal building to efficiently handle an expected
increase in passengers over the coming 20 years.<br />
<br />
<br />
Other than tourism, the Netherlands is the leading European importer of
Tanzanian flowers, mostly grown in the northern Tanzania regions of
Arusha and Kilimanjaro on the foothills of Mount Meru and Mount
Kilimanjaro.<br />

<br />
President Ali Mohamed Shein of Tanzania's semi-autonomous region Zanzibar will be visiting the Barefoot College in Tilonia, on Sunday.<br />
<br />
The college has taught illiterate rural women from <a href="http://www.purezanzibar.com/" target="_blank">Zanzibar</a> to
fabricate, install and maintain solar home lighting systems and
lanterns.<br />
<br />
"Impressed by the skills of the Zanzibari rural women
in assembling, installing and maintaining solar lamps for providing
solar power to over 200 non-electrified homes in two rural north
<a href="http://www.zanzibar.co.uk/" target="_blank">Zanzibar</a> communities, after their training under an ITEC programme of
the Ministry of External Affairs, Shein decided to visit the Barefoot
College, Tilonia, with a view to establish similar barefoot training
facilities in Zanzibar," said a spokesperson of the college. An MOU will
be signed during his visit.<br />
<br />
The 'Zanzibar Women Barefoot Solar Engineers' have been trained with
the support of an NGO, Wanawake Kupanda. The NGO is founded by the
original group of solar engineers from Zanzibar trained in 2011.<br />
<br />
The Barefoot College is a non-governmental organization that has been
providing basic services and solutions to problems in rural communities
for over four decades with the objective of making them self-sufficient
and sustainable.<br />
<br />
The 'barefoot solutions' can be broadly
categorized into solar electrification for non-electrified villages
worldwide, drinking water through rainwater harvesting, health,
education, increasing livelihood sources and empowering women.<br />
<br />
So far, over 600 semi-literate women have been trained as "Barefoot Solar Engineers" from 63 countries across <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/destinations/the-americas" target="_blank">Latin America</a>, Caribbean, <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/destinations/africa" target="_blank">Africa</a>, <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/destinations/east-and-asia" target="_blank">Asia</a>
and South Pacific Islands. They have solar electrified 45,000 rural
houses for lighting affecting more than 500,000 people across the
developing world. It is estimated that solar lighting saves more than 3
million litre of kerosene in lighting per year.<br />
<br />
The reception of
President Ali Mohamed Shein to the Barefoot College will coincide with
the Lok Utsav music festival being held at the Tilonia campus from
February 1 to 4. The festival is a celebration of the traditional
Rajasthani singers and musicians and will welcome more than 300
participants.<br />

<div class="story-body">
The Zanzibar government will continue
to honour the renowned taarab genre artist, the late Siti Binti Saad,
for her enormous contributions in promoting <a href="http://www.zanzibar.co.uk/" target="_blank">Zanzibar</a> worldwide through
her tantalizing music talent.<br />
<br />
This was said by Zanzibar President Ali Mohamed Shein at a ceremony
to inaugurate the Institute of Activist Siti Binti Saad held at Bwawani
Hotel on Tuesday evening.<br />
<br />
President Shein said that the institute honours the late artist and
promotes the great work she did, which has greatly promoted the country
and its rich history.<br />
<br />
He described the late Binti Saad as a shining light, which has always
lit up <a href="http://www.purezanzibar.com/" target="_blank">Zanzibar</a>, saying further that her skills in promoting the
country's culture will always be cherished. President Shein called on
other artists to learn the work done by Binti Saad.<br />
<br />
The president said that in order for the work of art to be nice and
attractive to many people, it requires creativity and discipline of its
kind.<br />
<br />
He said that creativity and discipline are two things which go
together in a work of art, especially in taarab music, and when one of
it misses artistic work will not go well.<br />
<br />
"I must insist so much in creativity in our work of art, because
creativity and discipline bring attractiveness," he said. He added: "In
taarab, everyone is attracted in different ways... there are those who
are attracted by the voice, rhythm, stanza and even the artist's
appearance."<br />
<br />
He further said that taarab music requires great patience as shown by
the late Binti Saad considering that there is no easy task in this
world.<br />
<br />
"Taarab needs tolerance because the beginning of anything is always
difficult and there is no easy task. So it is a must for a person to
struggle in the same way Binti Saad did. She never gave up and was
always eager to learn new things," said president Shein.<br />
<br />
He also emphasized on the need for artists to seek and attain further
education, saying education was the basis of development that will
assist them a lot in bringing efficiency to their lives.<br />

The much announced introduction of a common single tourist Visa for foreign tourists coming to <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/destinations/africa/kenya" target="_blank">Kenya</a>, <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/destinations/africa/uganda" target="_blank">Uganda</a> and <a href="http://www.puresafari.com/destinations/africa/rwanda" target="_blank">Rwanda</a>, has started the new year with a postponement, as none of the three countries apparently was ready to launch on January 1st, this being a public holiday across the region.<br />
<br />
A similar delay is also hitting citizens of the three countries who attempted to travel by using their national ID card.<br />
<br />
No affirmative date could be ascertained when the new arrangements, for the citizens of the three countries to travel by using their national ID cards nor for tourist visitors would be ready, and if the new system is still being launched in January or at a later stage.<br />

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has issued a
50,000/- commemorative coin to mark the 50th anniversary of the Zanzibar
Revolution on January 12, 1964, the Governor, Prof Benno Ndulu has
said.<br />
<br />
The governor said the 92.50 per cent silver-proof commemorative coin
will not be used as legal tender in settlement of any transaction.<br />
<br />
Issuance of the coin is in line with the BoT tradition to issue such
coins to commemorate special and important events of national and
international significance, Prof Ndulu said.<br />
<br />
Normally with time, the value of such coins appreciates and becomes more valuable to the holders.<br />
He said the coin has been issued in limited quantity (3,000 pieces
only) for the important and historic occasion and called on members of
the public to purchase it at 50,000/- as a souvenir of the 50th
Anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution.<br />
<br />
The coins, Prof Ndulu said, will be sold at commercial bank branches,
which will obtain them from BoT headquarters in Dar es Salaam and Bank
of Tanzania (BoT) branches in Zanzibar, Arusha, Mbeya and Mwanza.<br />
<br />
"Commercial banks will also use their branches to make the special
commemorative coins available for members of the public to buy effective
from 5th January, 2014," the governor said, adding that the banks will
also provide information to members of the public about the availability
of the coins.<br />
The coin displays the portrait of the late Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume,
on its obverse side encircled with an inscription, "Rais wa Kwanza wa
Zanzibar na Mwenyekiti wa Baraza la Mapinduzi" (The First President of
Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council), while on the
reverse side it displays the Coat of Arms of the Revolutionary
Government of Zanzibar, inscribed "Miaka Hamsini ya Mapinduzi" (Fifty
Years of the Revolution), the denomination value and the dates
1964-2014.<br />
